I am addicted to the american TV shows and the process to enable the subtitle for an episode takes much time. You need to connect to a subtitles provider such as tvsubtitles, type the TV show name, find the correct episode, download/unzip a zip containing the subtitle and rename it.
Recently VideoLan has released a new version of their video player called VLC 2.0 flowplayer and by navigating on their website I found an interesting plugins repository.
I downloaded and installed two similar plugins to facilitate the subtitle integration into a TV show Subtitles Finder or VLSUB.
EDIT 1: I recommend you to use Subtitles Finder due to its better user interface.
EDIT 2: More information about the installation, you have to create a new folder called “extensions” in the “%ProgramFiles(x86)%/VideoLAN/VLC/lua” directory.
EDIT 3: You can use the extension by clicking on the “View” element menu then by using the “Subtitles” extension.
The process is very simple, it takes the name of the video file which is currently playing in the video player and it searches by using the opensubtitles API the correct subtitle (you need to choose your preferred language). However if you want to keep physically the subtitles I did not find where these plugins downloaded the subtitles.
EDIT 4: I found another plugin based on the Subtitles Finder which allows you to download the subtitle in the current folder but it was not stable. However the original author will update his script soon.
